God Loves me
God Loves Me More Than That

Dandi Daley Mackall; Illustrated By: David Hohn

Review by A. E. Jaskiewicz

How much does God love me?  That is a question that may seem difficult to answer.  After all, God’s love is supposed to be the greatest thing of all.  In ‘God Loves Me More Than That’, Dandi Daley Mackall sets out to show children exactly how great God’s love for us really is.

The story starts with this simple question, “How much love does God have for me?”  Then, the reader is sent on a whimsical rhyming journey which shows different things that God’s love is greater than.  Some are simple (more than the letters A to Z), and some are more funny (heavier than Elephants munching on hay).  However, every example conveys the same message to the reader.  God’s love is greater than anyone could possibly measure.

Throughout the book, readers are treated to a fun and often funny rhyming tale.  There are so many great examples that are used for things that God’s love is greater than, children will be entertained over and over again.  Every child is sure to have a favorite example from the book, as there are examples that cover every interest a child could possibly have.  There are some that will appeal to boys, some to girls, some to sports enthusiasts, some to animal lovers, and everyone in between.  Plus, the fun and melodic rhyming in the book is sure to keep a young child’s attention.

The illustrations in the book are bright and colorful.  Every example that is given in the book is accompanied by a fun and whimsical picture, so kids can see exactly what is being explained.  The pictures are the perfect accompaniment to the text, which will just enhance the enjoyment for any young child.

The language used in the book is definitely on a level that even very young children will be able to grasp easily.  Even if a child is not sure what something means, they will be able to easily figure it out just by looking at the corresponding picture that goes along with each example.

‘God Loves Me More Than That’ is a fun and whimsical book with a wonderful message for young ones.  It is something that will both provide a good message to kids, while also providing them with a fun book that they will enjoy reading and seeing over and over again.  As I said, no matter what their interest may be, this book is sure to capture it in one way or another, which makes it appropriate for kids with any interests.
