Having read the previous seven books in the series, it came as no shock that this book lived up to its expected potential.  Karen Wiesner has once again given her readers a fantastic story filled with action and romance so hot that her readers become putty in her hands.

Dez Luttino and Nova Granger have crossed paths a number of times in different missions.  In fact, for a while, Dez was her team leader.  He helped her to gain a few of the only skills left that needed perfecting.  Dez gets called in to help Nova overcome one more obstacle; to trust people. The kicker is Dez is not allowed to tell her that he has become her mentor. He has been given instructions to do whatever it takes to win her trust so that it is him that she runs to in her time of greatest need.   Never one to disobey direct orders, even when he doesn’t understand why he is being asked to do it, Dez agrees.

Nova Granger has had an extremely hard upbringing.  Being raped and molested by her father and his friends at the tender age of five not only stole her innocence, but it also took away her ability to trust anyone and to even be comfortable in her own skin.  Being accepted into The Network is the best thing that could have ever happened to Nova.  Even though she has a lot of compassion for the victims that she faces in her missions, she has closed her heart off to men, and has gotten close to almost no one.  When Dez comes along, she is at first suspicious.  She soon realizes that she cannot ignore the overwhelming desire to get close to him; mind, body, and soul.  Discovering that Dez feels the same way throws the two of them into a whirlwind of heated passion that doesn’t seem to ever want to extinguish.

In the midst of their newfound love for each other, they are both sent on a mission with other fellow operatives to go undercover to protect a little girl and her father. He is the leader of a group of people trying to pass a bill that prevents the government from getting involved in any sort of marriage; regardless of how old the child is that is getting married. The mission turns out to be harder than they thought, and Nova finds herself drawn to this girl in a way she can’t quite understand…When the truth is unveiled it leaves Nova exposed and turns her into her old, hard, revenge seeking self.

Karen Wiesner had me at the edge of my seat the entire time. My romantic side was anticipating when Dez and Nova would realize that they were made for each other and when the time would come when they just couldn’t keep their hands off of each other.  My action pact side couldn’t wait to find out why it was that Nova was so drawn to this young girl who hasn’t spoken to anyone in over a year, until Nova came along.  I was not disappointed in either of those instances.  This book can be read alone, or in order that the series go. However you decide to read it, this is one that will not disappoint!
