Some Like It Red Hot

It was serendipity at its best. I received a copy of Some Like It Red Hot the day before my 50th birthday, the perfect present for my new decade of life- a glimpse of a future that could be full of excitement, entertainment and, well, umm. uh, erotic ecstasy. Not a bad way to face my future- now if I can just meet Trent...

Lotsi has left the corporate world, after an unwelcome early retirement, at top speed- well, that was the plan. A used RV with a new Kawasaki Ninja 500R motorcycle attached was to be her method of escape. But an RV breakdown on her way to visit her daughter has changed that plan somewhat.  At least she was intending to visit her friend and fellow Red Hot Ladies Club member Gwen and her husband Shay there in Las Vegas anyway. She is looking forward to a relaxing two weeks to catch up with her friends and learning more about her new chosen life style. But it turns out to be anything but relaxing. First she meets Trent, a man who makes her tingle in places that have not tingled in a long, long time. The handsome Trent returns her interest and things progress nicely, and graphically, for them. But a murder takes both their attention when it seems Lotsi's life is in danger from an unknown killer. And since the police are targeting Trent as the murderer Lotsi feels it is up to her to prove them wrong.

Merrill has been able to serve the reader a book that has it all- a story with suspense, action and with a heaping helping of sex.   It also is an interesting look into both the worlds of full time RVers and the Red Hot (Red Hat) Ladies societies.  It is a woman's book through and through- the PR calls it "chick lit for the hot flash set" which is the best way of describing it (wish I had come it with that first.) It is for those that like their mysteries and their love stories on full blast- not for the weak or the warm. It is for those who truly have a lust for life, in every sense of the word.

I first met Robin Merrill's work in the short story anthology Map of Murder with her short story "Coffee Break."  I was impressed with her ability then and not disappointed with this one, her first full length novel. Now for the next one, Red Hot August Night- here I come! This will be the second in the Red Hot Series and, according to the author's web site, will follow up on Lotsi and Trent with another crime to solve.
