The Sapphire Pendant

Jessie Clifton is a young woman who is intent on getting back a family heirloom – the sapphire pendant – that her father had to sell years before in order to send Jessie to school.  She’s in and out of jobs left and right, and can’t seem to find something suitable for the “rest of her life.”  Her two sisters are established in business, very smart and, according to Jessie, are much prettier than she.  An athlete through and through, Jessie is certainly more comfortable on the fresh asphalt of a basketball court than in heels and ball-gowns.

Kenneth Preston is Mr. Perfect.  Handsome, killer smile, charming…he’s brought the community where he lives respect through his business and volunteer programs.  Every woman in the county is begging for a shot to become Mrs. Perfect, but Kenneth can’t seem to find one he remotely wants to spend time with.

Unlike the atypical, boring set-up, where the two main characters “run” into each other on the street and sparks fly, this author lets us know right away that Kenneth and Jessie have known each other for a good long time.  In fact, Kenneth was the jerk who stood Jessie up on prom night making her completely against men for the rest of her life.

A doorway opens and Jessie gets herself involved with a bet that will gain her the Sapphire Pendant if she wins.  But will it end up hurting Mr. Perfect?

This, ForeWord Magazine’s Book of the Year Silver Award Winner (Romance), keeps us guessing as a niece shows up in Kenneth’s life and Jessie becomes her nanny.  The little girl has many secrets and one that could just destroy Kenneth Preston forever.  Add in a woman who wants with all her might to see Mr. Perfect fall from his pedestal and be thrown out of her father’s company; a drunken sot of a brother whose anger turns against everyone in the family; and more than one matriarch of a family who have kept their secrets hidden within the folds of their ball gowns and are about to unleash them upon the unsuspecting community…and you have a well thought out page turner that will keep you intrigued.

The betrayal and intricate backgrounds from both families alternates between a lovely romance, a tragic drama, and a quest for a family heirloom that will uncover a betrayal from the past that may just make Jessie Clifton wish she’d never ever met Kenneth Preston.
