Sydney Clair: A Girls ‘N Grace in the 1960s
Pam Davis
This is a story of 10-year-old Sydney
Clair
Wilcox who is feeling lonely during the summer of 1965. Even with her
friends,
Vicky and Ann, around she feels something is missing. Sydney Clair, as
well as
her family and friends, go through a bunch of trouble when she meets a
golden
retriever puppy. The puppy has the name to match, Trouble, and trouble
surrounds him. After a particularly bad experience, “Sydney Clair felt
the cool
dampness of tears pooled on her pillow. She couldn’t remember the last
time
Mother had been that upset. Trouble had hurt nearly her whole family.
She loved
him, but she had to wonder—was he worth it? Was a dog really what she’d
wanted
after all?”
Throughout the
story, Sydney
Claire learns about grace along with God’s gifts and friendship. After
dealing
with her troubled summer, “She remembered her empty feeling as she lay
on the
front lawn with her friends – that feeling that something was missing.
When
Trouble came along, she’d thought he was the answer.”
“Sydney Clair: A Girls ‘N Grace
in the 1960s” is a cute story with
a wonderful added bonus. There is 1960s historical information
